William Dean Chilcoat was born August 9, 1930 in Rogers, Arkansas, son of Luther Grey and Mary Angeline York Chilcoat. He graduated high school in McLish, Oklahoma, attended the University of Oklahoma and later lived in Ada. During the Korean Conflict, he served in the US Air Force as a SSgt, in Japan. Later he worked in the oil fields in Pampa, TX before moving to Victoria to partner with his brother, James, in Texas Real Estate for forty years. After retirement he substitute taught for the Victoria ISD and was loved by the students who respected his tall 6’4” frame, his soft-spoken kindness, and enviable Donald Duck imitations. His favorites included the Dallas Cowboys, western movies, Louis L’Amour books, Mitzii Gaynor, and religious gospel music. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and four sisters. His one surviving sister, Mary Elizabeth Scott, lives in Vernon, Texas.
An active member of the Northside Baptist Church, Dean served as a Deacon, usher, greeter, and other positions as needed. His winning smile, friendliness, caring concern, and interest in all he met will be greatly missed by all. His family marveled that he could always find some connection to Ada, Oklahoma with whomever he met.
Dean’s loving family includes his wife of fifty-three years, Jeanette (Jan) Everman, and children Michele Klutts (David), Cynthia Denman, and Marc Chilcoat (Karin). Grandchildren are Shelby and Sarah Klutts, Blake and Austin Denman, Paige, Peyton and Parker Chilcoat.
Pallbearers are his four grandsons, and golf buddies, Dr. Jim Lueders and Royce Gower. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be sent in memory of W.D. Chilcoat to Northside Baptist School, 4100 N. Laurent Street, Victoria, TX 77901.
Visitation is scheduled 5 -7 pm Friday, April 6th, at Colonial Funeral Home with private burial 9 am Saturday, April 7th. A Celebration of Life follows at 10 am at the Northside Baptist Church. Colonial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
