He was born October 28, 1927 in Edna, Texas to the late Nick Joseph Marthiljohni and Lillie Mae Branch Marthiljohni. He had 9 siblings, the only surviving sister is Trois Marthiljohni Girndt of Ganado, Texas.
Wally was a devoted husband to Willie Mae Gates Marthiljohni. They married on June 6, 1952. Willie and Wally shared 65 years of marriage and were loving parents to three children, Kim Marthiljohni Sprencel, Brent E. Marthiljohni, and Mark K. Marthiljohni (Cheryl). He also adored his five grandchildren, Kassidy Elmore, Kyle Marthiljohni, Kaylle Yeo, Megan Marthiljohni and Courtney Marthiljohni; and five great grandchildren, Gaige Marthiljohni, Taegan Hutson, Bracen Adams, Jynsen Yeo and Harper Yeo. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Oliver N. Marthiljohni and Robert "Chris" Marthiljohni; his sisters, Opal Williams, Margie Williamson, Norma Roznovsky, Mattie Mercer and Lolla M. Sonnaker and Lillian Marthiljohni.
Wally left the Air Force and went to work at Mobil Oil on the West Ranch and retired after 40 years. His work ethic did not waver after retirement. He ranched for 29 years, loved to garden, hunted and fished. Wally leaves behind a legacy of how others should be treated with respect and integrity. His generosity and kind nature will always be remembered. Most importantly, Wally relied on his strong faith throughout his life for guidance and direction.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 29, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at Rosewood Funeral Chapels. A celebration of Wally’s life and legacy will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at LifePointe Fellowship Church, 8150 Nursery Drive. Burial with full military honors under the auspices of the Victoria Veterans Council will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Marthiljohni, Gary Summers, Rodney Girndt, Jimmy Girndt, Bruce Merrill, Blake Sbrusch and J. R. Hampton.
