Valerie Vance Zipp Parker of Victoria, Texas passed from this life on June 7, 2024, at the age of 88. She was born in Galveston, Texas on November 26, 1935, to Dr. Raymond and Marie Vance Zipp. Mrs. Parker is survived by her husband of 66 years, Gerald Parker; sister Sharon Zipp; and Mrs. Parker’s 3 children and 6 grandchildren: Vance Parker (Karen) of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Patrick Parker (Tracy LaQuey) of Austin, Texas and Sarah Parker Chisholm (Wallace David) of Brenham, Texas and grandchildren Emily Koski (Adam), Rebecca Parker, Harrison Parker, Henry Parker and Elizabeth and Grant Chisholm.
Mrs. Parker was a 1954 highest honor graduate of Edna High School. She graduated with a BS in Education with honors from The University of Texas at Austin and was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She taught elementary school and Spanish in Palm Beach County, Florida and in Edna, Texas.
In Edna, Mrs. Parker was a homemaker, a member of the Eleanor Breckenridge Study Club, an elder in Edna Presbyterian Church and President of the Presbyterian Women, a member of the Texana Museum and the Texana Arts Council. In Victoria, she was a member of Decora Study Club, New Victorians Club, member and President of the Victoria Symphony League, Azalea Garden Club, Bon Aire Garden Club,Friends of the Library, and a board member of Victoria Fine Arts.
Mrs. Parker loved to travel and visited all 7 of the world’s continents and was an avid reader and bridge player.
Memorial services will be on Monday, June 17 at 11:00 am at Rosewood Funeral Home in Victoria and burial at 4 pm in Memory Gardens, Edna, Texas. Pallbearers will be John Vance, Vance Mitchell, David Chisholm, Harrison Parker, Henry Parker, and Grant Chisholm. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), The Audubon Society, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
