I was looking up old friends on my computer and saw that Steve past in 2016.  We worked together in the computer industry in the 80's and I'm sorry to hear about his passing. I will never forget the great times we had at work and after work at Ropers. We took a business trip to Vegas and a couple of camping trips in his RV.  Great poker player, funny guy, a man's man type of guy. Wishing his wife and family the best and again so sorry to find out about Steve.

I am sorry you and Steve did not have longer to enjoy your new home about which you seemed so excited and pleased.  I do hope you had memorable good times there together.  My best wishes to you. My condolences to his family. I am a former Patti Welder student and church family member. I was honored to have Mr. Groll teach math to me. Afterwards my future goal was to be a mathematician. I went into teaching (math still my favorite subject). Then my love for music guided me where I am presently, teaching elementary music.

Mr. Groll was a teacher that never gave up on you. It's been 10 years since I sat in his class and I remember it like yesterday. Mr. Groll was the best teacher I ever had I learned so much from him. You will be greatly missed.

Mr. Groll was my favorite teacher. I remember he used to make wooden pens. I always admired them. He gave me a beautiful bright brown pen that I still have to this day. I loved his passion for teaching. We always had fun and we were always looking to what he would say next. I used to say "like" a lot and he was determined for me to stop. He said I was smart but that word made me sound dumb. So every time I said it out of habit he would step on my foot. We would laugh and it became a game. I eventually stopped and haven't used it in my daily vocabulary since.  The last day he was my teacher I didn't want to leave. I literally sat in my chair and refused to get up. My friends and classmates had to pull me in the hall...desk and all. He had a good chuckle at that. I will miss you. Condolences to his family and friends.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Mr. Groll was an unforgettable and wonderful teacher who made a positive impact in my life and to the lives of many others.

CCISD had a banquet for the top ten students of each high school. They called it the Academic Achiever's banquet I believe. You were allowed to invite one teacher who has had the greatest impact on your education. I always invited my middle school math teacher Mr. Groll. He didn't get to attend the banquets, but I remember he called me to tell me he was so proud of me and my accomplishments! 

He was my math teacher for 2 years at Martin Middle School. I loved his class! I was going through a rough time at that point in my life. I was getting into trouble and dealing with the loss of my grandmother. I always looked forward to coming to Mr. Groll's class. It was an escape for me. 

He shared the funniest stories with us! Like the one about stealing vegetables out of someone's garden! As a teacher he had the highest expectations for all of his students! We worked our butts off in class from the beginning to the end. I remember he also made us memorize this saying "Thirty days hath September, April, June, and November. All the rest have 31 except February, which has 28. Leap year makes it one day more, which makes it 29. EVERY FOUR YEARS!" 

12 years later, and here I am, teaching 5th grade math at school that is very much similar to the school I attended. I LOVE teaching, and I hope that I inspire my students just as Mr. Groll inspired me. You will be missed!

I know that this is a sad time for the family members and close friends of "Mr Groll", but let  that sorrow be lifted by the fact that he left a life-long effect on many of his former students such as myself. I was lucky enough to have been taught by "Mr Groll" in 1972 and he made math fun and interesting by adding his own comical twist to it.

We were deeply saddened to hear that Steve had passed way.  He was a 
really great guy who always had a smile on his face.  My most memorable
occasion with him was when he taught me how to gig frogs.  We got a bunch 
on my first "gig" with him.  We are sure that he will be missed by many.  May
God bless the entire Groll family during your time of loss.

My deepest sympathy to Joan and the children on Steven's passing. I know he had been sick a lot, so I am glad that he is no longer suffering. May his memory live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him and may the Grace and Peace of Jesus Christ surround them during this sad time.
