Richard T. Chapman, Jr. was born on the 5th of July 1954 in Beaumont, TX to Isabelle Phipps Chapman and Richard T. Chapman Sr. and passed peacefully away with his wife by his side on the 30th of January 2024 in San Antonio, TX. He was 69 years of age.
After receiving his law degree from the University of Texas, Richard began a forty-six year career as a young attorney at the law firm of Anderson, Smith, Null and Stofer, LLP then a partner and eventually managing partner.
He was a member of the Victoria County Bar Association and State Bar of Texas. Richard dedicated numerous hours serving on many boards which include Hospice of South Texas, South Texas Zoological Society, Trinity Episcopal School and First Christian Church. He was past District Chairman of Ducks Unlimited, past chair of the State Bar of Texas Grievance Committee, District 11c.
Richard loved the outdoors and spent many years on the numerous hunting leases spending time with friends. He also had the opportunity to hunt in Bolivia and Africa which was a lifelong dream.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Lydia Stroud Chapman; daughter, Mary Cathleen Chapman and step daughters, Amy Perrigue (Carl), Ivy Ford; Step son, Dale Cockrill; sisters Helen Herzog (John), Susan Bergstrom (Larry), Karen Albright (John); five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard T. Chapman, Sr. and Isabelle Phipps Chapman Corbett and two nephews.
A celebration of life will be conducted at one o’clock in the afternoon at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1501 N. Glass on the 17th of February 2024 with Father Stephen Carson officiating. A reception will follow at the Trinity Episcopal Parish Hall.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family request with gratitude that memorial contributions in Richard’s name be made to St. Francis Episcopal Church or Trinity Episcopal Church.
