Paul Anthony “Bevo” Martinez, 69, of Victoria formerly of Austin, passed away in Victoria, Texas on January 8, 2025, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Paul was born in Victoria on August 20, 1955, the only son of Carolina de Leon and Paul Molina Martinez. He attended Nazareth Academy, St Joseph High School, ‘73, and St. Edward's University Austin, ‘77.
Paul worked at Ascension Seton Medical Center in Austin for 47 years in the Emergency Department and was a lifelong Texas Longhorn fan. Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Carolina de Leon and Paul M. Martinez. While Paul never married, he lived a full and vibrant life with more friends than you could count. Paul’s cousins, nephews, and nieces meant more to him than words can describe. He is a descendant of the founders of Victoria, Martin de Leon and Patricia de la Garza and delighted in celebrating Victoria’s Bicentennial Celebration activities in 2024.
All services will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 402 South Main Street, Victoria TX, 77901. Visitation begins at 1PM, followed by the praying of the rosary at 1:30PM. His eulogy will be read after the rosary by Curtis Townsend and Father Kristopher Fuchs will officiate Catholic Mass at 2:30PM.

As a caregiver himself, Paul was particularly sensitive to great care and would like to thank Dr. Athira Unnikrishnan and staff of Midtown Austin Texas Oncology; Dr. Fariborz Gorouhi and staff; Dr. Peter Nguyen and staff; Citizens Medical Center Outpatient Infusion Center; Teri Low RN, CMC; and New Century Hospice, especially the loving care of K’Liyah Hernandez, RN and Christie Trevino, CNA.
