Nancy was born on May 18, 1949 in Ashville, North Carolina to D.J. and Irene (Metge) Ballard. She spent
her childhood in El Paso, TX where she met and later married the love of her life of 51 years, Michael
Gomez. Together they raised three daughters, Melinda, Angie and Selena.
Nancy worked at Neumann’s food store for many years until the iconic grocery store closed its doors.
She pulled herself out retirement to work at HEB for a few more years before she finally decided to
retire for good. She was active in the Victoria Girl’s Fastpitch league as a scorekeeper, parent, surrogate
parent and even served on the board of directors.
Nancy was an avid animal lover, especially for cats. She left behind her beloved fur babies Pudge and
Diablo along with the neighborhood strays she always made sure were fed. She was an avid, kind-
hearted Houston Astros fan who was known for her quick wit, big smile, and big voice.
Nancy was preceded in death by her mother, father, mother and father in-law, two brothers and one
sister. She is survived by: her husband, Michael Gomez; sister, Bonnie Sampson; her three daughters,
Melinda (Sam), Angie, Selena; her three grandsons Michael (Rhiannon), Marcus (Kortni), Zachary; and,
one great granddaughter, Aria Belle.
Visitation will be on Monday, April 1, 2019 from 5-7 at Rosewood Funeral
Chapel 3304 E Mockingbird Ln Victoria, Texas 77904. The Rosary will follow at 7:30 p.m.
