Mary Lucile Peavy Miller (formerly Kratzig) of Victoria, Texas passed away in Corpus Christi, Texas on April 24, 2018 at the age of 96. She is survived by her son Paul Garrett Kratzig (Corpus Christi); her daughter-in-law, Margaret Jane Kratzig; and her three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Katherine, and Suzanne; and her great granddaughter, Lucile Garrett Portenga. She was preceded in death by her son, David Norton Kratzig, and her loving husband, Jack O. Miller. She is also survived by Jack’s son, Stephen Miller, whom she looked upon with much love and affection.
Lucy, as she was known, was born in Dobbs Ferry, New York of Alabama parents who had moved to New York to pursue a career in opera. As a young woman she studied violin with members of the Juilliard School of Music. She was a graduate of the College of William & Mary (B.A.-1942) where she was a member of the Tri Delta Sorority, and she later obtained her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Houston--Victoria. She moved to Victoria in 1953 and was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church from 1953 until moving for health reasons to Corpus Christi in 2010 to be with her son and daughter-in-law. She was the original principal of Trinity Episcopal Parish School where she remained as principal and teacher for many years; she played the violin in the Victoria Symphony and, later, was engaged in many volunteer activities, including many years and hours of service to the Citizens Medical Center Auxiliary of which she was a Life Member.
