Marjorie Marie Williams Pennington, 84, of Victoria, peacefully journeyed to her eternal home on October 26, 2014. She was preceded in the journey by her parents, Chris and Ethel Williams; the love of her life, Ted Pennington; her sister, Christine Paine; and her brother, Vernon Williams.
Marjorie was born on February 18, 1930 in Provo, Arkansas. As an infant, her family moved to Buna, Texas, where she resided until graduating from Buna High School. She was working as a telephone operator in Beaumont, Texas, when she met the love of her life, Ted Pennington. She was a devoted and loving wife and supported him in his career, which took them from Texas to Alabama, Missouri, New Mexico, Tennessee, and back to Texas. Marjorie’s devotion to her husband was rooted in her love of her children, and in providing a secure life and a comfortable home, and in preserving the family unit.
Marjorie had an outgoing and friendly personality, and no matter where life took her, she made friends easily and maintained those friendships and connections across the miles and years.
Marjorie gave up her career with Bell Telephone to raise her children, but after her children were grown, she held positions in retail sales, as a licensed real estate agent, and in her retirement years, as a greeter at Walmart. Her genuine love of people and friendly personality served her well in all of her endeavors.
Marjorie’s deepest commitment and greatest love and joy were her children (all ten of them), which included grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was happiest when they were with her and if anyone of them was not there, she always asked about the ones who were not there. Her devotion to her children was unwavering and unconditional. She taught, by her example, the humility and selflessness of true, unconditional love. She was always the first to apologize, the first to forgive, and the first to love, no matter what. She taught her children about faith in God, courage in adversity and sickness, and the power of prayer. She was the gentlest and strongest of women, and we are blessed to call her Momma and Mam-ma. Marjorie will be remembered by all for her smile, her sense of humor, and her love of a good joke and a good hard laugh.
Marjorie is survived by her daughters, Katherine Pennington, Dianne Wolfe, and Terrie Pennington; grandchildren, Eric Felts, David Felts, Travis Pennington, Lauren Wolfe, and John Wolfe; great-grandchildren Delaney and Luke Huddleston; and sister, Jean Seaman.
The family would like to extend gratitude to her friends and caregivers at Twin Pines Nursing Home, to nurses Mary Ellen and April for their caring compassion during her final hours, and to Hospice of South Texas. A special thanks to Marcy Cortines for making her laugh, even on the bad days. Marjorie will be remembered by her friends at Twin Pines as one of Elvis’s biggest fans.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at Rosewood Funeral Chapel with a private graveside service immediately following the service.
Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.rosewoodfuneralchapel.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in her memory.
