Maria de la luz Garza Saenz, 85, of West, Texas, passed away Friday, February 23, 2024. She was born on Rancho Alegre in Alice, TX on July 25, 1938 to the late Jose and Marcel Garza. At the young age of 15, Maria had to quit school to help the family work in the cotton fields of South Texas. Maria married Esteban Saenz on October 28, 1956.
Maria is preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Esperanza Saenz; and sons, Jose and Esteban Saenz III. She is survived by her sons, Mauricio, Adrian and Roberto; and daughters, Graciela and Christina. También un montón de nietos y bisnietos y seguro unos cuantos tatara nietos.
María was a servant first. She served her family and her community in many ways, also caring for many non family members thru her generous giving. The love of Maria’s life was The Lord Jesus Christ who she also shared with many and with whom she is now enjoying a magnificent encounter. Maria’s Faith was best described in Proverbs 31 - Her children arise and call her blessed. “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears The Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 1, 2024 at 9AM at Colonial Funeral Home, with funeral services beginning at 10AM. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Steve Saenz IV, Joe Saenz, Mauricio Saenz, Jr., Erik Saenz, Roy Saenz and David Saenz.
