Linda Ann (Korthals) Sonntag was born on a November morning in 1948 in Superior, Nebraska to Albert H and Nettie (Bagley) Korthals. Linda donned her angel’s wings on October 8, 2024 in Victoria, Texas.
Linda had an artistic side that favored her mother, and a practical side that favored her father. These background traits formed the foundation for her career as a hairdresser that spanned almost 52 years. Linda’s eye for beauty and her precision defined her, whether she was styling hair, gardening, or making a salad. She was a shining example of her chosen profession: Dedication to service, respect for her customers, and the art of conversation – psychiatrists could take lessons!
Linda graduated from Victoria High School in 1967, and she attended Victoria Beauty College. In 1979, she married the love of her life, Kenneth W Sonntag, in Victoria. Linda and Kenneth shared many happy memories, including gatherings at the Sonntag deer camp in Sublime and attending NASCAR races with friends in North Carolina and Virginia. They were married for 32 years before Kenneth passed away in 2011.
Linda was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, where she enjoyed serving in the choir. Linda was an active member of Community Bible Study since 2012. She earned her Master Gardener designation in 2022 and was involved in several projects of the Victoria County Master Gardener Association.
Preceding Linda in the journey to heaven were her husband Kenneth, her parents Nettie and Al Korthals, and her brother Alan Korthals. Linda is survived by her sister, Jo Korthals and husband Mark Taylor of San Marcos; sister-in-law Susan Korthals of Newcastle, Maine; brother-in-law David Sonntag and wife Brigid of Victoria; nieces Ashley (Korthals) Reynolds and husband Ryan (sons Luke and Liam) of Amherst, New Hampshire; nieces Bianca (Sonntag) Horton and husband Cody (daughters Hailey and Carly and son Jack) of Victoria; nephew Scott Sonntag and wife Paige (sons Rawley, Lawson and Arlow, and another child on the way!) of Victoria, nieces Caroline Korthals of Portland, Maine and Meredith Korthals of Bath, Maine, and nephew Benjamin Korthals Taylor of Baker, Nevada; aunt Betty Marcotte of Santa Paula, California; and uncle Richard (wife Janene) Bagley of Superior, Nebraska.
Visitation will be Friday, October 18, 2024 at 10 AM at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 4102 North Ben Jordan Street, Victoria, Texas, followed at 11 AM by a service celebrating Linda’s life. Burial will be at Geiger Cemetery in Sublime.
Linda and her family thank doctors Edward Farrell, Fariborz Gorouhi, and Miguel Sierra-Hoffman of Victoria and Abhishek Maiti of Houston, and the Outpatient Infusion and 5th floor staffs at Citizens Medical Center for their care and kindness.
