Leona M. Svoboda Bowen, 90, of Victoria passed away peacefully at home Friday, April 16, 2010. She was born April 18, 1919, in Shiner to the late Alois and Mary Roznovsky Svoboda. She was the last surviving child of the family, having been preceded in death by her two sisters and four brothers. Leona retired after working forty years as a nurse for DeTar and Devereaux. She was also a member of Our Lady of Victory Cathedral.
Survivors include her daughters, Mary Orr and her husband, Bobby, of Yoakum, Paula Obsta of Sugarland and Stephanie Meyer of Victoria; her son, Anthony “Tony” Bowen Jr. and his wife, Manon of San Antonio; four grandchildren, John Obsta, Paul Obsta, Amy Llorens and Colby Bowen; four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony G. Bowen, and a son, Michael Bowen.
Visitation will be 5:00-6:00 pm Sunday, April 18, 2010, at Rosewood Funeral Chapels, and a Rosary will be recited at 6 pm.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Monday, April 19, 2010, at Our Lady of Victory Cathedral. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be John Obsta, Paul Obsta, Colby Bowen, Jeremy Olson, Bobby Orr and George Svoboda. Honorary pallbearers will be R. G. and Bernell Stanford, Adolph and Evelyn Spann and Adolph and Bernice Marek.
