Lee Roy Gentry, 80, of Victoria passed away Friday, February 17, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Houston on January 17, 1932 to the late Walter D. and Selma Guenther Gentry, and shortly thereafter the family moved to Victoria where he spent the rest of his life. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Victoria.
Lee Roy graduated from Patti Welder High School and Victoria College. He was employed by DuPont in 1950 where he worked for 40 years, his career interrupted only by his two-year service with the United States Army stationed in Korea as a member of the 76th Engineer Construction Battalion.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Peggy; daughter, Peggy Lee Bryant and husband Gerald of Victoria; daughter-in-law:, Maxine Gentry of Calallen; grandchildren, Meredyth Rudloff and husband Brian of Dallas, Travis Bryant of Victoria and Glenn Thomas Gentry of Calallen; sister, Etta Lou Champagne of Pettus; and brothers, Walter Marcus Gentry of Victoria and Kenneth Gentry of Meyersville.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Roy Gene Gentry; granddaughter, Lindsay Michelle Bryant; and sister, Freida O'Hara.
Lee Roy dedicated his life to his family and his grandchildren were the joy of his life. He was a kind and gentle soul who will be greatly missed by all who loved him so dearly.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, February 20, 2012 at Rosewood Funeral Chapel in Victoria. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Rosewood Funeral Chapel with military honors to be conducted under the auspices of the Victoria Veterans Council immediately following the service. Burial will follow at 3:15 p.m. at Hebron Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Travis Bryant, Glenn Thomas Gentry, Glenn Goode, Brian Rudloff, Don Polzin, Kyle Polzin, Greg Najvar, and Dana Woodward.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or First Baptist Church of Victoria.
