Kenneth Ray Ballard passed away on July 15, 2024, in Victoria, Texas. He led a life rich in service, education, and love for his community. Born on January 7, 1936, Ken's legacy is woven deeply into the fabric of those whose lives he touched.
Ken's career spanned over three decades in education, beginning as a history teacher and coach before assuming the esteemed role of 3rd principal at Howell Middle School. His commitment to nurturing young minds extended beyond retirement, where he found joy in maintaining the grounds and observing the bald eagles at Dupont.
A proud graduate of West Texas State College, Ken distinguished himself both academically and athletically. He led his football team with a total of 125 receiving yards, to a victory in the Tangerine Bowl in 1957 against Mississippi Southern.
Outside of his professional achievements, Ken was beloved for his warmth and humor, often seen enjoying games of dominoes and poker. His hobbies reflected his passion for the outdoors, from football and deer hunting to bird watching, fishing, and gardening.
Ken's faith was central to his life, as an active member of the First United Methodist Church, where he contributed to the spiritual well-being of his community. He married the love of his life, Patricia, in 1961. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion to family that they built over the course of their 63 years of marriage. Ken leaves behind his loving spouse, Patricia Ballard; his children, Stacie Strickland and Denise Schwab, Tray and Lori Ballard, Paige and Curtis Newman; siblings Lou Jean Lewis, Phyllis Nanney, Dee and Clyde Brooner, Rusty and Twana Ballard, Nelda and Ken Douglas, Denis Burgess and Charlotte Ballard. His legacy also includes grandchildren, Kala and Mike Lynch, Beau Strickland and Bryana Litterini, Adrianne and Joe Janacek, Justin Newman, Zachary Ballard, and Madison Newman; and eight great-grandchildren who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna and RC Ballard; his siblings, Robert Ballard, Janice Burgess, Burt Lewis, and Ernie Nanney.
Ken's life was marked by his dedication to his family, his career, and his community, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.
The Celebration of Ken’s Life will be held at First United Methodist Church, 407 N Bridge, Victoria, TX 77901 on Friday, August 2nd. Visitation with the family will be from 10 am to 11 am with services to follow from 11 am to 12 pm. Ken’s ashes will be buried in Nixon.
