Kathleen Albrecht passed away peacefully at her home in Victoria at the age of 62. Kathy was born on September 2, 1956 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Morris and Betty Whitson. She was the oldest of two girls, born nine months before her sister, Debbi.
Kathy grew up in Pasadena, Texas and received a Bachelor’s degree from University of Houston, where she was also a cheerleader and member of the Delta Zeta sorority. She went on to earn a Master’s of Business Administration from the University of St. Thomas. She began her career at Solatex Exploration, where she met her longtime friend Cindy Hubert. She moved on to work in accounting at Continental Airlines, and then followed her dreams in fashion by becoming the manager of the Couture Salon at Neiman Marcus.
She met her husband, Phil, in 1987 and began her favorite career path - being a homemaker, wife and mother. She raised her beloved Phillip Matthew from the age of four, and had their second child Whitson James in 1989, followed by their third child, Alexa Lauren, in 1991. The family moved to Victoria, Texas in 1998.
Kathy had a selfless, loving spirit and poured out an endless well of love to everyone she met. She was an artistic, talented person with a deep joy for sewing and creating wedding dresses for countless close friends, fashion, cooking, writing, and reading. She showered her friends and family with thoughtful gifts including hand-stitched clothing, scrapbooks, and home-made meals. She loved animals and had three devoted companions at the time her passing: Dixie, Cabby, and Daisy. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and supported many causes throughout Houston and Victoria, including the Dorothy O’Connor Pet Adoption Center and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
She always strove to put others needs before her own, most evident in the profoundly attentive and affectionate mothering of her three children. Beyond her own children, many other young people, friends and family can attest to the love and sweetness Kathy showered upon anyone who entered her home. She was truly the embodiment of kindness.
Her memory will be cherished by her parents Morris and Betty Whitson, her sister and brother-in-law, Debbi and Polk Sullivan, all of Clear Lake, Texas, as well as her husband of 30 years, Phil, and three children Matthew, of Victoria, and Whitson and Alexa, of Houston. She is also survived by her sister- and brother-in-law, Christy and Steve Paulsgrove, as well as nephews, Jamison Horny, Casey Horny and his wife Cara along with their three daughters Carsyn, Breslyn, and Evelyn, nephews Stefan Sullivan, Blake Sullivan, his wife Lauren and son Maverick and her father-in-law P.A. Albrecht and his wife Milledean. She is preceded in death by her grandparents Russell and Juanita Whitson and Oran and Gladys Hinton and her mother-in-law Monte Jo Mitchell.
