Joseph “Joe” Jurica of Victoria passed away peacefully on Friday, June 13, 2014 at the age of 83. He was born March 19, 1931 in Tivoli, Texas to the late Charles and Annie Peters Jurica. Joe moved to Victoria in November of 1941. He was employed at DuPont for 39 years and retired in 1993 as a production foreman. He was also a farmer in Victoria County.
He married Geraldine Kutchka Jurica, his wife of 60 years, on January 30, 1954. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and served as a Hospitality Minister. He was also a member of the following: Knights of Columbus #1329, Serra Club of Victoria, DuPont Retirees Association, and the Victoria County Czech Heritage Society. Joe served with the 136th AC & W Squadron in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine; daughter, Donna Moeller (Billy) of Victoria; sons, Roy Jurica (Virginia) and Gerald Jurica (Jean) all of Victoria; eight grandchildren: Duane, Roy, Aaron, & Matt Moeller, Kendal Fikes, Kaley and Kristen Jurica, and Ashlin Krawietz; and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Ann Michelle Jurica; sisters, Edna Davidson and Vlasta Keller; and brother, James Jurica.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm, Monday, June 16, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with a Rosary to follow at 7 pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Tuesday, June 17 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Dominic Antwi Boasiako officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are grandsons, Duane, Roy, Aaron, and Matt Moeller, Ashlin Krawietz, and CJ Fikes. Honorary pallbearers are James Vasek, Thomas Kurtz, Tommy Edwards, and Mac Beard.
Contributions may be made in memory of Joe to Nazareth Academy School, St. Joseph High School, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, or to Hospice of South Texas.
