My Uncle Joe was a wonderful man. He was generous, spiritual, courageous, smart, funny, and talented in many ways. He loved his wife, his family, medicine, music, and above all, he loved life itself.

One of my earliest memories of him was in 1972 when I was 8 years old. My family drove down to Coral Gables, Florida to visit him. He treated us all like Kings and Queens. He made sure we saw everything there was to see. He took me swimming in the ocean and laughed at my surprise at how much warmer the water was in Florida as compared to Connecticut.

He would talk with all of us about being healthy and happy. I think he was far ahead of his time where health was concerned. Our whole family started taking vitamins and exercising regularly because of Uncle Joe. And some of us still meditate regularly because of him. Of course, I could have done without the daily Wheat Germ he convinced my father to give us kids every morning!!

A visit from Uncle Joe was like having an extra holiday during the year. We would all clear our schedules to be there when he and Madlyn would come to Rogers Lake in Old Lyme, Connecticut. We would talk for hours. And when the talking stopped, the accordion would come out! No one in the world could play the accordion like Uncle Joe. He would entertain us for hours, always ending with the The Flight of the Bumblebee. We loved to see his fingers flying around the keys and the wonderful smile on his face.

 Uncle Joe was an intellectual who could talk at length about any subject. I always learned so much from him. He was one of my greatest teachers. It was Uncle Joe who encouraged me in my dream to become a physician. It was a special bond that we shared. Even until recently I would call him with questions about difficult patients and he would always help me. I will miss our talks.

Uncle Joe was the Ultimate physician, healer and caregiver. He liked to make people feel better and feel good. He was accepting of everyone and never tried to change anyone except to encourage them on a path to wellness.

I have extreme love for and gratitude to my Uncle Joe. I can never thank him enough for everything he has brought to my life. My life is richer for having known him.

Uncle Joe was the 6th of 7 children born to Lucia and Francesco Carbone.  He and his brothers and sisters: Frank, Paul, Josephine, Sal, Mary, and Louis, loved each other and helped each other. They survived the Depression together. He is the final one to leave this Earth, and I know that they are all reunited now in God's Kingdom. And I am sure that the Flight of the Bumblebee is being played once again.

Sometimes one wonders who has made an impression on their lives.  My Uncle Joe, was one such person.  I am sure that he touched and influenced countless lives as a veteran, musician, and physician.  

As an impressionable youngster in junior high, I visited my Uncle Joe in Miami.  I saw how he enjoyed his life.  It was a lifestyle far different from what I was accustomed to.  Living in the warm tropics, exotic fruit trees in the yard, a pool in the back, the beach close by.  

I remember the protein shake concoctions he would make for me.  They must have been very healthy, because they sure tasted disgusting! I would drink them, making horrible faces, and he would laugh!  He taught me the importance of vitamins, nutrition, and eating a healthy diet - no fried foods.  'Baked or broiled' he would say.

To keep a young kid from being bored, he would have me sort the medication samples, then he would explain what the medications were used for.

Today, I am a pharmacist living in tropical South Florida.  I try to lead a healthy, active lifestyle, take my vitamins, and avoid fatty fried foods.  Yeah, I think it's safe to say that my Uncle Joe had an influence on my life.  

Rest in Peace Uncle Joe, you will be missed by all those whose lives you have touched and influenced.

Dear Mrs. Carbone, I want to say just how sorry my wife and I are at learning of your great loss.  We are so thankful for the years you and Dr. Carbone shared our home there in Beeville while we served as missionaries here in New Jersey.  Your support has enabled us to help many disadvantaged children here get quality educations and qualify and win scholarships to college, thereby helping them build beautiful bright futures for themselves.  We have appreciated your faithful tenancy over these years and have marveled at your faithful devotion to Dr. Carbone.  My prayer is that God, Himself, will fill the vacancy that you have in your life, and that He will comfort, carry you in His arms, and give you sweet peace.  May His Love ever sustain you. Madlyn - Dr. Carbone had a true angle here on earth to take care of him in his final last days. I remember how you wouldn't give up on him when he had his major stroke and the doctors had their doubts - how you wouldn't leave his side - not even to change clothes or take a shower. You nurtured him back to health and he was able to remain with you for those additional allotted years. And now that he has gone on to his rewards, he will be watching over you - not leaving your side or giving up on the Blessed Hope that you will join him in heaven when you have completed your days here on earth. It appears that Uncle Joe was a teacher in addition to being a Doctor.

Let us celebrate his life.

Let us honor his life by aspiring to live a life as rewarding as his was by touching as many lives as we can with great love, respect and humility as he did.

Let us have the courage to embrace lives challenges with great strength of character and dignity as he did.

Let us always remember that kindness and caring are the touchstones of life as he so eloquently knew.

Let us all say a prayer in thanks for having had Uncle Joe as a part of our lives for as long as we did.

Here's to you Uncle Joe, you truly had a wonderful life and you truly inspired us all!

I wish to extend my heartfelt sympathy to the family. When I was employed with the Dr, I was able to develop a confident IV technique which still aids me. I will always be great full. Dr was able to help a lot of people with an not so accepted treatment which has now a part of the medical community. He had this courage which washable to give me the confidence in my carrer.

When I think of my uncle Joe it is with good thoughts.
As a teenager he used to have me come to his home in Coral Gables, Florida.  It was always a great experience.  I think I will always view Uncle Joe as an outgoing and caring person.  He was always trying to improve whoever he was with and if a person was down he had a great ability to pick them up.  

Uncle Joe was a role model in many areas.  For example he was an outstanding Physician.  When he used to take me on his hospital rounds you could see his patients loved him.  He was very kind and nurturing to them.   Uncle Joe was also an accomplished musician with his accordion.  Not only did he put himself through Medical school playing the accordion but he also entertained his family at get-togethers.  In this regard I know my father, mother, brothers and sisters always looked forward to seeing Uncle Joe and Madlyn when they visited us at Rogers Lake in Connecticut.  It was like a holiday when Uncle Joe came to town.     

The other thing I will remember about Uncle Joe for is his love for discussing intellectual things.  I especially enjoyed our conversations on religion and I think I even taught him a few things on that subject.   Uncle Joe was always trying to expand his mind on many subjects which made him interesting to talk to.

I will miss my uncle but I also look forward to seeing him again under Gods Kingdom in the future.

With deepest sympathy on the loss of my Uncle Joe I know there will be a big void to fill by his passing but I also know this is a very strong and loving family so we will be fine in time to come.  My Uncle Joe was a wonderful person, he touched many live's and with all the love and good he has done in this world he will live in our hearts forever.  We are the life force power of the Universe.  We have the power to chose who and how we want to be and live in this world and My Uncle Joe did just that, he chose to be a doctor and he projected peace and love by helping many .  There is a special place in the heaven's above where My Uncle Joe will rest in peace.  May The Lord of Light protect you, guide you, and bring you home safe.

My Uncle Joe was one of the most influential people in my life. In 1968, when I was in 8th grade, my family visited him in Coral Gables, Florida. He taught me about meditation, vitamins and healthy living. He showed me some yoga poses and I've incorporated all those things into my life since then. 

I'll remember the twinkle in his eyes and his fingers flying over his accordion keys as he played "Flight of the Bumble Bee." 

He was a wonderful host, showing us everything Miami had to offer. When he realized we hadn't sampled Florida's signature dessert, he insisted on introducing us to key lime pie at the Miami airport. The pie was so good we didn't hear our boarding call and almost missed our flight home, but we got to sit in first class because of our delay. 

Uncle Joe had a zest for life and inspired those around him. Now he is reunited with my mom and the rest of his family.

He lived a good life and we are all richer for knowing him.
