1937 – 2016
John passed away peacefully on February 22, 2016, finally free of his long struggle with Parkinson’s disease.
John grew up in Shamrock, Texas, in the Texas Panhandle, where he learned the skills and values that made him a very successful and respected businessman, and a much admired and loved person.
He attended the University of Texas – Austin, and later earned an MBA from the Wharton School of Business. He worked for many years as a senior executive of E.F. Hutton, and then he founded the investment firm Sanders, Morris & Mundy in Houston with his partners and friends.
He retired to Rockport, Texas, to be close to the ocean he loved so much, spending days fishing and golfing including winning fishing tournaments and making three holes-in-one.
John is survived by his wife, Sherry Mundy of Victoria; his sister, Judy M. Youens of Houston; his son, Jeff Mundy (Katherine) of Austin; his daughter, Michelle Mundy Russo (Tom) of Los Angeles; step-daughter, Mary Lee (Todd) of Victoria; step-sons, Randy Preiss (Traci) of Victoria and Scott Preiss (Trish) of Gillette, Wyoming; 6 grandsons and 1 great-grandson; and a large and loving extended family and caring friends.
A Rosary will be recited at 1:15pm Friday, February 26, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church followed by a funeral mass at 2:00 pm.
The family extends a sincere and special thanks to Sherry, his wife of twenty-seven years, for her devotion and care for John through the years of challenges in his struggle with Parkinson’s.
