John was a people person with a generosity of spirit that was a blessing to all. He was a Father, Grandfather, Johnny, Grandpa, and friend to everyone he came into contact with and never met a stranger. He made everyone feel welcome wherever he was. He was born on the 9th of October 1942 and had just celebrated his 80th birthday.
John served in the US Marine Corps from 1963 to 1967 and was stationed in Vietnam defending his country. After being honorably discharged, he served two years in Quantico at the Marine Corps Development and Education Command (MCDEC) in the spirit of the command motto, “Semper Progredi” — Always Forward. He loved training and helping young Marines. John was so proud to be a Marine. He always embodied the saying “Once a Marine, always a Marine”
He grew up playing any and every sport with his brothers, Mike and Bobby, and everyone said, “watch out here come the Doll brothers.” He loved his sister, Linda and her husband, Mike. His family meant everything to him. Golf was his passion, and he was known for out driving everyone and everyone tried to beat him! He played with a great group of guys. He loved Duke basketball, Coach K and all Cincinnati teams, college and professional.
John worked for Popeyes Fried Chicken for 30 years and loved being a Business Consultant, helping and training all levels of people. He was the “Baddest Alligator in the Swamp” for four years running for his excellence in working with Franchisees, Managers, and the Crew.
His last year was a gift because he was so sick last Christmas. He and Debbie spent this year traveling, visiting many countries, seeing shows and musicals, entertaining friends and making the most of everyday even if it was just drinking coffee on the patio in his beautiful back yard. He was blessed to see his new granddaughter Emersyn. He and Debbie shared a magical love that knew no end. Everyone could see and feel the love they shared for one another.
We will all cherish our memories for he was a great man! He will be missed!
