Jean Allen Young Gladden passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2015. She was born January 24, 1927 and was the daughter of Wilbur and Mary Young. She grew up in Granger, Texas and attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she was named Bluebonnet Belle. After graduation, she was a teacher in Austin for several years. In 1951, she married Charles Gladden and eventually they settled in Victoria and became owners of Gladden Motor Co. They celebrated 52 years of marriage before his passing in 2003. While in Victoria, Jean was active with the Azalea Garden Club, Bon Aire Garden Club, Club 20 and Decora Study Club. She volunteered with the American Cancer Society for many years and she was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Victoria. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and loved by her many friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Gladden of Austin; son, Gary Gladden, wife Kelly, of Victoria; grandchildren, Jason, wife Kaleigh, Gladden and Matthew Gladden; great granddaughter, Ashleigh; and many nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Mary Young, and her beloved husband, Charles Gladden.
A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm, Thursday, May 21, 2015 at Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 am, Friday, May 22, 2015 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Shamburger officiating. A private graveside service will follow the funeral.
