James J Mullen, 81, of Victoria, passed away June 5, 2017. Heaven is a richer place with Jim’s passing. He was a devout Catholic whose faith was a guiding force in his life. He will always be remembered as a loving and supportive husband and father, putting other’s needs ahead of his own. He was a kind and compassionate friend to all, always ready to lend an ear by being a mentor to many, teaching by his guidance and example. The greatest joys in his life were his children and grandchildren.
James was born in Meadville, Pennsylvania on December 18, 1935 to the late Frank Joseph and Margaret Smith Mullen. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Pauline Svrcek Mullen; sons, James “Jimmy” Mullen (Sandra) of Hallettsville, Sean Mullen (Karen) of Austin; daughter, Jennifer Matey (Douglas) of Victoria and grandchildren, Cole, Savannah, Jake, Fourdam, Aiden, Kendall and London.
Jim had a long career as a patent and trademark attorney with Shell Oil and Celanese Corporation. After his retirement, he continued to work as a consultant with DuPont and multiple private firms. He earned degrees from Georgia Tech and South Texas College of Law. He was a member of the Texas, Florida, and Missouri Bar Associations.
James was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jeane Owen.
A visitation will be held Friday, June 9, 2017 from 5 -7 pm at Rosewood Funeral Chapel in Victoria, Texas with a rosary to be recited at 7 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 10 am at Our Lady of Victory Cathedral in Victoria, Texas with Father Gary Janak officiating. A reception for family and friends will be held immediately following the funeral service.
A private burial will be held at the Ascension of Our Lord Cemetery in Moravia, Texas.
The family would like to thank all of the physicians, surgeons, nurses and staff of DeTar Navarro, Citizens Medical Center, Warm Springs, Twin Pines North, Citizens Skilled Nursing Unit and Hospice of South Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Victory Catholic School (Victoria, TX), Sacred Heart Catholic School (Hallettsville, TX) or a charity of your choice.
