He graduated from Diboll High School in 1950 then enlisted in the United States Air Force then attended and graduated from Stephen F. Austin University with a degree in Education. He landed his first teaching job in McFaddin, Texas at the age of 26. He continued his career in education in McFaddin as teacher, principal, superintendent, and bus driver for 37 years. From the classroom to the baseball field, he was dedicated to education and loved all of his students like they were his own. “Professor” Goins has left a memory in the heart of many of his students. He also ran the grain elevator at McFaddin Grain Company for too many years to count and was foreman at Womack Ranch for 15 years.
Jack will be fishing and hunting with the angels above. He loved hunting in the woods, catching catfish in the Guadalupe River and spending time anywhere in the outdoors. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Refugio, Texas.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Beulah Goins, his siblings Eugene, Buddy, Freddie, Clydelle, Joyce, Ginger, Frankie, and Beulah Ann.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Betty Keen Goins; sister Patsy Goins Lowery (PJ); brother Larry Goins (Judy); brother-in-law and sister-in-law LD & Billie Smith, niece Lisa Strauser (Dean); his children Charlotte Goins Dick (Kevin); Cathy Goins Blackmon ( A.D.), Larry Goins (Debbie) grandchildren Derek, Tyler, Kaitlyn, Randy (Melissa) Amy and Kelley.
Visitation will be from 4 – 7 pm Sunday, October 23, 2016 at Rosewood Funeral Chapels.
Funeral services will be Monday, October 24, 2016 at 10 am at Rosewood Funeral Chapels with Mr. Craig Van Dyke officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Kevin Dick, A.D. Blackmon, Derek Dick, Tyler Dick, Randy Goins, Arlen Walker and Mark Haymaker. Honorary Pallbearers are Linwood Smith, William Womack, Jess Womack, Marslin Willemin, Arnulfo Lara and all former students of McFaddin School.
