Iva Owens Boyd, 82, of Refugio left this world to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, January 20, 2012. She was born October 31, 1929, in Doddridge, Arkansas, to the late C.R. and Vida Vick Owens.
Iva’s family moved to Refugio in 1945 where she completed her senior year of high school. It was there she met Robert J. Boyd. Upon graduation she moved to Shreveport, Louisiana, were she was employed in the banking industry. Realizing the long distance courtship was too far Robert convinced her to move back to Refugio and become his bride in April 1950. After a short time of living in Victoria, they made Refugio their permanent home. While a homemaker, Iva developed her passion for oil painting and gardening. Everyone that knows Iva, knew what a strong willed individual she was; when she put her mind to something it was accomplished. Because of that determination, she was an inspiration to her family and those she came in contact with.
Iva was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Refugio. She was actively involved in several organizations including Eastern Star chapter and Refugio Women’s Sorority. In addition, she and Robert enjoyed being active members in domino, dance and supper clubs.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, siblings Pete Owens and Lenora Owens Nash. Survivors include sisters, Linda Owens of Temple, Joan Harris of Harlingen, brother-in-law, Buddy Billups (Sandra), sister in law Betsy Gerdes of College Station. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews including Jimmy Haynes of Refugio, Brenda Haynes Mundine of Woodsboro, Liz Moloney of Victoria, and Jack Billups of Victoria. She also would want to acknowledge Helena Sinclair, her lifelong friend of over 75 years of Katy.
Pallbears are nephews: Jimmy Haynes, Jack Billups, Rusty Gerdes and great nieces and nephew Megan Haynes, Kasie Mundine and Philip Mundine.
At Iva’s request, join the family for graveside services officiated by her nephew, David Mundine at 10:00 am on Monday, January 23, 2012, at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Victoria.
The family would like to acknowledge their appreciation to Dr Fabian Espinosa, Dr. Tyson Meyer, the D wing nurses and aides of Twin Pines and Hospice of South Texas for the care and compassion extended to Iva.
