Isaac J. Garza, 57, of Victoria, passed away March 8, 2016. He was born November 30, 1958 in El Campo, Texas, son of the late Joe R and David Guadalupe Jasso Garza. Isaac was an active member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. He attended a Special Needs ACTS Retreat, and thanks to Father Stan DeBoe, he received his Sacraments. He enjoyed helping out during Christmas with the Posadas.
Isaac attended Hope School and Gulf Bend Day Rehabilitation Center. He was very active in Special Olympics and enjoyed traveling with the team; he liked to meet new and old friends during competition and participated in bowling, golf, basketball, track and field. Isaac was a 20 year member of the Victoria Association for Citizens with Disabilities (VACD) and had a great time at the dances and parties. Isaac volunteered for several years assisting veterans, Les Weaver and brother-in-law, Fred, by placing flags on veterans' grave sites during the Memorial Day and Veterans Day holiday tradition. Isaac never met a stranger; you would always be greeted with a smile and a handshake. He will truly be missed by his family and many friends.
He is survived by his siblings, Carmen Garza (Caroline), Samuel Garza (Tammy), Olimpia G. Sauseda (Freddie), Zacarias Garza (Elizabeth), Eulalia Wehunt (Derek) and Martina Murphy (Patrick) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm followed by a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm on Friday, March 11, 2016 at Colonial Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held 9:00 am, Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church with Rev. Philip Brune officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Julius D. Hernandez, Julius Hernandez, Jonathan Sauseda, Manuel Villarreal, Marco Cruz, and Samuel Scott Garza. Honorary pallbearer is Joshua Hernandez.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Schroff, M.D. Anderson, Dr. Pruitt, Dr. C. Crane, Dr. Matin, Dr. Chen, Mandy San Martin, R.N.BSN, and Dr. Richard Leggitt, as well as Hospice of South Texas staff for their kindness to the family during this difficult time.
