Ida Josie Bowers, 74, of Victoria, died Wednesday, July 12, 2017. She was born on September 19, 1942, in El Campo, TX to the late Cyril and Josie (Mezik) Mazoch. She was a Catholic and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Ida graduated from Crescent High School in Wharton County in 1960, then attended Wharton Junior College and became a licensed vocational nurse. She worked as an LVN most of her life with breaks staying at home raising her 3 daughters. Ida enjoyed family, especially her 4 grandchildren, traveling, and friends. She was avidly known as the “walker” of the neighborhood and didn’t meet a stranger. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed baking for her family, and harvested the rewards of Hubert’s gardening with all the fresh vegetables or fruit from his trees.
Ida is survived by her husband of 54 years, Hubert H. Bowers; daughters: Kim Bowers of Houston, TX, Terri Baker (Marc) of Houston, TX, and Renee Martellaro (Patrick) of Victoria, TX; grandchildren: Brandi, Kristen & Morgan Baker & Clark Martellaro. She is also survived by a sister, Geraldine (James) Venglar of Inez, TX; nieces & nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, A.C. “Slim” Mazoch & sister-in-law, Beverly Mazoch.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 16, 2017 at Rosewood Funeral Chapel from 6-7 pm with a rosary to be recited at 7 pm. Funeral Mass will be at 10 am on Monday, July 17, 2017 at Holy Family Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Pallbearers: Craig Bowers, Cody Bowers, Dennis Ray Bowers, Donnie Venglar, Michael Venglar and Slim Leland.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of South Texas, American Cancer Society, or donor's choice.
