Herbert Wendt, Jr., age 81, devoted husband, father and grandfather went to be with our Heavenly Father on January 15, 2015 following a lengthy illness. He was a lifelong resident of Victoria, Texas, and a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. He was born on March 11, 1933, to the late Herbert Wendt, Sr. and Adele Stindt Wendt. Herbert served in the US Navy and attended Victoria Junior College before beginning his career with Union Carbide, from which he retired after 35 years of service. He married the love of his life, Betty Ann Schaefer Wendt, on June 15 1955. He was an avid golfer, fisherman and hunter and enjoyed spending summers camping with his family.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Betty Ann Wendt; daughter, Donna Arkell and husband, Bill Arkell; daughter, Kim McClellan and husband, Travis McClellan; grandchildren, Jeffery Arkell and wife, Jodi Arkell, Shelby Simmons, Zachary Herbst, Nate, Sean, Zach and Will McClellan; great-granddaughters, Madi and Avery Arkell; sister, Joyce Rowen and husband, Jack Rowen; nieces Becky Whitney and Christa Gore; and nephews, Sean and Christopher Gore.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 19, 2015, from Noon-2:00 pm at Rosewood Funeral Chapels with services following at 2:00 pm with Pastor John Waak officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bill Arkell, Travis McClellan, Jeff Arkell, John Gore, Sean Gore and Chris Gore.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 4102 N. Ben Jordan, Victoria, Texas, 77901.
