Hazel Tiller, age 86, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2011. She was born August 14, 1924 in New Madrid, Missouri to the late James Mitchell and Bessie Lee Leggett Long. She lived most of her life in the Rio Grande Valley, Houston, Victoria, and most recently in Corpus Christi. Hazel was known throughout her family for her wonderful home cooked meals and great desserts. She loved being outside tending her plants and garden. Mom would give you the shirt off her back and ask if you wanted it starched and ironed! Hazel was a welder in a shipyard during WWII. She could change out her plumbing, rewire her house, and top off her trees and still have dinner on the table at 5 o’clock – with enough leftover in case there was company. There was nothing she loved more than having her family around her.
She is survived by her daughters, Mytra Goodpaster and husband Alan of Corpus Christi, and Danna Garland and husband James of Victoria; sons, Robert Lee Wilson and wife Mary of Florida, and Charles Ashley and wife Phyllis of Houston; brothers, Bobby Long and wife Joy, and Clarence Long and wife Joyce; 11 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and 12 great great grandchildren.
