Hazel Marie Hutchison “Meme” Morrow, 92, passed away Thursday, November 18, 2010. She was born January 15, 1918, in El Dorado Springs, Missouri, to the late Daniel Martin Hutchison and Emelia Beck Hutchison. Hazel was a long time resident of Refugio and Victoria County.
She graduated from Patti Welder High School in 1934, and received her Associates degree from Victoria College in 1936, magna cum laude. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Southwest Texas State Teachers College in 1956, and her Masters in 1959. Hazel started her teaching career at the Power School in Victoria in 1936 at the age of 18. She moved to the Collettoville School in 1942, and in 1952 she was employed as a teacher and principal for the Nursery Independent School District. She then spent twenty-five years with the Victoria Independent School District at Patti Welder Jr. High and Victoria High Schools, retiring in 1983 with forty years of service to public education. At that time she was presented a certificate of citation by the state of Texas House of Representatives. Hazel was a member of the Delta Gamma Society International since 1977, the Victoria Classroom Teachers Association and received the Honor Award for Teacher of the Year in 1980. She was also a Victoria College Student Council Honorary Member in 1971-72 and 1978-79. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her children, Danna Morrow Brandt of Tivoli, Bobbie Phillips and husband, Spec of Victoria, Edward Perry Morrow and wife, Darlene of Cypress; eleven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild; brother, Daniel Hutchison, Jr. of New Braunfels.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Perry Morrow; second husband, Henry Morrow; daughter, Nancy Morrow White; grandson, Mark Breed; great-granddaughter, Darcee Amelia Lee; and brothers, Earl Hutchison and Leroy Hutchison.
Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 pm Monday, November 22, 2010, at Rosewood Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday, November 23, 2010, at Rosewood Funeral Chapel, Rev. James Shamburger officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Leonard Lee, Jim Chadd, Russell McGehee, Jr., Dustin McGehee, David Pollock and Russell Brandt.
Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Williams and David Phillips.

Family meant everything to Meme. She devoted her life to them and the generations of students she influenced in her teaching career. Meme will be lovingly remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher and friend.
