He graduated from Patti Welder High School in 1948. When he was 17, he met the love of his life, Patsy Ann Dearman of McFaddin. They married on New Year’s Eve in 1949.
Glenn joined the 136th AC&W Squadron of the Texas Air National Guard in 1950. They were called to active duty during the Korean Conflict. Glenn served from 1951 to 1953 on active duty at Gieger AFB and Portland Airbase in Washington and Oregon. He continued in the Air Force Reserve until 1966.
After service he worked for the Hauschild Company before joining the new Union Carbide operation at Seadrift. He had a 30-year career before retirement. Glenn was active in his church and served as a Boy Scout leader. He had many interests – ham radio, hunting, wood working, home building and remodeling, and building computers. Nothing, however, gave him as much joy as being a husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather.
Glenn is survived by his wife of 69 years and their daughters, Karen Locher (Paul) and Kathy Gibbs Schneider (Dale), along with grandchildren Jason Gibbs (Jennifer), Katie Gohlke (Shaye), Christopher Locher, Melissa Bingham, and Erich Schneider (Holli), and great-grandchildren Hannah Hendricks, Brantley Schneider, and Charlotte Gohlke. Also surviving are sister Sue Novotny (Steve) and brother Donald Hand (Sandra) and many loved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Alton Hand, Forrest Eugene Hand, and Richard Hand.
