He graduated from Calhoun High School and attended Texas Lutheran College; he served his country in the US Air Corp and was assigned to Foster Field for the duration of World War II while living in Edna. In 1948 he moved to Victoria to open and manage the Federal Land Bank Office.
Mr. Anderson was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon and an Elder and was director of choir singing at many weddings and funerals, as well as being a member of the Victoria Men’s Barber Shop Quartet for many years and a former member of Victoria Kiwanis Club. Mr. Anderson worked as an insurance agent for fifty-years before retiring from Southland Life Insurance Company, and also was an instructor for many years for Life Underwriters and state life insurance licensing.
Mr. Anderson leaves behind his wife of seventy-one years, Lucile Turney Anderson of Victoria; daughter, Nancy Strane and husband, Bill of Edna; son, Donald H. Anderson and wife, Ruth of Victoria; grandchildren, Kathryn E. Anderson, Keri M. Bassett and husband, Bo, Michael Strane and Scott Strane; two great grandchildren, Zachery B. Bassett and Katelynn L. Bassett; and caregiver, Jessie Smith.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by three sisters, Evelyn Reed, Lois Doherty and Arlene Miles.
The family will receive friend at Rosewood Funeral Chapel on Thursday, January 20, 2011 from 6-7 PM. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 21, 2011 at 11 AM at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kathryn Morton officiating. Private family burial will take place at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
