Gary was born on September 16, 1951, in Corpus Christi, TX to Eugene and Virginia Sabin. The family moved to Bloomington, Tx briefly and then on to Victoria where he resided for the rest of his life. Gary graduated from Victoria High School in 1970. He remained close with his classmates and has attended yearly reunions with these friends for over 30 years! Gary received his associate degree in plant operations.
Gary married Sheila Ferguson in 1971, they welcomed three sons. In 1991 Gary married Dona Hughes Sabin. Together they welcomed one son. Gary and Dona were married until his death – for 32 years. Gary was the proud Papa to 5 grandchildren.
Gary was a man that could do anything he put his mind to. He was no stranger to hard work and could repair just about anything! He started his working life as an operator for Central Power and Light. He then moved on to the oil industry where he spent much of his career. Most notably, he was the General Manager for Superior Pressure Controls before starting his own business, Technical Sales and Service. He owned and operated this company for over 20 years. Next, he joined the Hanover Compressor Company as a plant manager. After his retirement, to keep him occupied, Gary contracted as an instructor for Caterpillar.
In his free time, he loved fishing, RV camping, and giving back to his community. Gary was proud of taking groups of Wounded Warriors out on his boat for fishing trips, and recently he had been supporting Tunnels for Towers.
Gary was a member of the Grace Presbyterian Church in Victoria. He served as a church elder, head of the Physical Facilities Committee, and worked with the Youth Group. Gary was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and was honored to have had the opportunity to serve as the Grand Master for the Victoria Chapter.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Nancy Gentry, her husband Sonny, and his brother Gene Sabin. He is survived by his wife Dona Hughes Sabin, brother Walter (Cindy) Sabin and his sons: Joshua (Margo), Brian (Jennifer), Jacob (Chelsea), Andrew and grandchildren: Claire, Cate, Ryley, Tristan and Andrew, Jr. Not to be left out, his beloved dachshunds, Lacy and George will also miss him greatly.
The funeral service for Gary will be held at the Grace Presbyterian Church in Victoria, TX on Friday January 5, 2024, at 1pm. Following the service Gary will be laid to rest at Memory Gardens following a Masonic Rites Service. The family will be hosting a gathering at their home for those wishing to attend after his burial.
