Gary B. Murphy

Mr. Murphy was a Chartered Life Underwriter and Proprietor of The Murphy Agency, and past President of the Gulf Coast Association of Life Underwriters. During his many years as a Life Insurance Agent he has touched the lives of families all over the State of Texas. He organized the Victoria Fencing Club and hosted the Gulf Coast Championship matches in 1985. He served as a volunteer in the Restorative Justice Ministry for 15 years, was a long standing member and Past President of the Victoria Camp of The Gideons International, and faithfully attended Rocky Creek Baptist Church for 24 years, 14 of those as Sunday School Superintendent. He was a Veteran of the United States Army 9th Infantry, Alaska, and member of the American Legion Post 166 in Victoria.

Gary is survived by his wife, Carol Ann Reynolds Baker Murphy of Victoria; a daughter, Lynn Ann Reeves and husband, A. J. Funderburg of Seadrift; stepson, Mark V. Baker and wife, Susan of Austin; grandchildren, James T., Andrew N., Zachary C. and Sean P. Paul of Homestead, FL, Vincent Sherzinger of Columus, OH, Shelley J., Cassie C. and Nicholas M. Baker of Austin, Jennifer Rodriguez of Austin; and great-grandchildren, J.T. Paul and Ryan Paul of Homestead, FL, and Adrienne Patricia Paul of St. Augustine, FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two daughters, Mary Kay Ghalayini and Patricia Ann Paul, and a stepson, Ben H. Baker

Memorial services will be held Saturday, December 17, 2011, at 1:00 p.m.at Rocky Creek Baptist Church in Mission Valley with Rev. Terry Bartlett officiating. Full military honors under the auspices of the Victoria Veterans Council will immediately follow the service. A luncheon will precede the service at the church at noon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gideons International for Bibles, Rocky Creek Baptist Church, Hospice of South Texas or to charity of donor’s choice.
