Garlan Louis Vick, 81, of Victoria, Texas passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at his home in Seguin, Texas. Garlan was born on November 25, 1935 in Victoria, Texas to Otto Vick and Desmer Daniels Vick Bufkin.
He attended Jeff Davis High School in Houston, Texas. He worked for International Harvester Company (Navistar International) and in 1991 he retired after working 37 years with the company. Garlan was a successful businessman and had the opportunity through his career to travel the world visiting several countries including China, Japan, Iraq, England, France, Canada and Mexico to name a few. Even though he was a successful businessman, Garlan was first and foremost a wonderful husband and father. He married the love of his life, Mary Alice Denham, on February 12, 1959 in Richmond, Texas. They would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary in February of 2017. Mary has remained the center of his world along with his children and grandchildren. When his children were young, he spent many nights at the little league fields and football stadiums. He enjoyed cooking and was especially known for his culinary skills in bar-b-que cuisine. Most of all, Garlan was known for his amiable personality and the kindness he demonstrated to those around him, whether or not he knew them personally.
He was a kind and generous husband, father and friend and he will be greatly missed. However the family has great comfort in knowing that he is with the Lord and is no longer in any pain.
Garlan is survived by his loving wife, Mary Alice Vick; his children, Gregory Louis Vick and spouse, Shelly Kathleen Vick of Conroe, Texas, Gary Lane Vick and spouse, Beverly Vick of Hattiesburg, Mississippi and Kimberly Ann Duhamel and spouse, Paul Duhamel of New Braunfels, Texas; his six grandchildren, Garrett Vick and spouse Bethany Vick, Travis Vick and spouse Brittany, Crystal Duhamel Hopper and spouse Dallas Hopper, Taylor Vick, Elijah Duhamel, Micah Duhamel, Ashley Sheffield and spouse Brian Sheffield; and four great grandchildren, Ryan, Jack, Cash and Olive Grace; his sisters, Gertrude Green, Rose Marek and Myrtle Stringham.
He is preceded in death by his father, Otto Vick, his mother, Desmer Vick Bufkin, his siblings, Farrell Vick, Otto Vick, Lula Mae Johnson and Mary Cooper.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 1801 E Red River, Victoria, Texas 77901.
A Graveside Service to follow at 3:00 pm at Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery.
