Emily Jean Olson was very dedicated to her 27 years as an oil and gas bookkeeper at Klotzman Companies right until the end. Her oil and gas career spanned over 60 years. She passed away on Friday, October 27, 2017.
Jean was born October 4, 1927 in Bishop Texas to James Elliott and Aquilla Chiles and was a member of Northside Baptist Church. She recently celebrated her 90th birthday in grand style with family and friends.
Jean was an amazing mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. The many stories that illustrate her unique nature are legendary.
One of her children, to demonstrate her singularity, said the family knew it was time to wake up in the morning for school when they could hear the smoke detector and the scraping of burnt toast.
She was a woman one would describe as soft-spoken, mild-mannered and gentle as well as fierce, protective and strong. Her motto was “There is always room for one more, just add more water to the soup.” She had an adventuresome spirit, loved to travel, read, and to entertain, but never wanted to be the center of attention. Jean was always up for a late night game of cards with the neighborhood kids (where you could count on her winning of course). In other words she had a lot of “moxie”.
There was never any doubt that she loved fully and deeply. In return, she was loved fully and deeply by her husband Karl “Ollie” Olson, their five children, 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren with one on the way, not to mention by the parade of people who were always welcome in her home. Jean’s generous spirit and open door policy meant you never knew who you’d be eating your burnt toast next to at the breakfast table.
She will be missed by everyone who was fortunate enough to have known her.
Jean is survived by her children Mike Pierson (Cathy) of Port Coquitlam, BC, Canada, Bob Olson of Victoria, Texas, Babette Lowe (Tommy) of Victoria, Texas, Bambi Frazier (Wayne) of Grapevine, Texas and Kevin Olson (Renee) of Victoria, Texas; her niece E.J. Abbott of Gruene, Texas and nephew Ronnie, Jimmy and Jerry Chiles; her sister-in-law Barbara Stanton of Jersey City, New Jersey; her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren, cousins and great-nieces.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Karl “Ollie” Olson, her parents and four brothers Buddy Chiles, Barnett Chiles, Pete Chiles and Robert Chiles.
A memorial service will be held December 2, 2017 at 1PM at Rosewood Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Karl E. “Ollie” Olson Scholarship at Victoria College or charity of donor’s choice.
