She was an active member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. She enjoyed serving her church as a greeter and volunteer, working with the church bulletin, visiting with members who were homebound. She enjoyed playing cards, and spending time with her family. She was a former employee of Comal Cottons. Ella was a very special lady and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her sons, Dr. Jim Whitley and wife, Bettina of The Woodlands and Terry Whitley of Victoria; granddaughter, Dr. Kimberly Modisette and husband, Clayton of Overton; ten great grandchildren, David Henry and wife, Jessica of Dallas, Brittany Hersey and husband, Scott of Ft. Bragg, NC, Kali Modisette of Denton, Reuel Modisette, Rose Modisette, Amanda Modisette, Samuel Modisette, Isabelle Modisette, and Ty Modisette, all of Overton, and Ariel Delong of Sulphur Springs; and great-great grandchildren, Jack Henry and Ella Hersey.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herbert Poteet Whitley; and eight brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Colonial Funeral Home. The Funeral Services will be held 10:00 am Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. John Waak officiating. Burial will follow at 12 Noon Thursday in Cuero, Texas at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Dr. Jim Whitley, Terry Whitley, Clayton Modisette, David Henry, Kali Modisette, Scott Hersey and Luke Hersey. Honorary pallbearers include Larry Volkmer, Bobby Schraeder, and Jeffrey DeLong.
