Edwin Charles Schaefer, 87 passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2013. Edwin was born December 29, 1925, in Victoria to the late Edwin August and Amanda Stafford Schaefer. He enlisted in the United States Marines on April 11, 1944, and served during World War II as part of the 5th Division, which raised the flag on Iwo Jima. He was critically wounded in the battle, therefore did not make it up the hill with his battalion. Edwin was one of the first motorcycle policemen in Victoria in 1948. He was a retired homebuilder.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Jo Ann Morris Schaefer of Victoria; daughter, Billie Itz and husband, Richard of Victoria; grandchildren Jason Itz and Keri Armstrong; 6 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 9 – 10 am Thursday, August 22, 2013, at Rosewood Funeral Chapels. Funeral services will begin at 10 am, Rev. Steve Hundley officiating. Burial with full military honors under the auspices of the Victoria Veterans Council will follow at the Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jason Itz, Richard Itz, Kenny Morris, Tom McCaskill, Jack Robert and Riley McCaskill
