Poe was a member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired shift supervisor at Union Carbide. He was a wonderful family man who loved his wife and children dearly. He enjoyed fishing and camping with his family and his grandchildren.
He is survived by his sons, James Poe “Jimmy” Young and wife Belinda of Victoria and Terrel G. Young and wife Rosalinda, all of Victoria; sister, Jimmie L. Johnson of New Braunfels; six grandchildren, Curtis Young, Jeremiah Young, Kristal Carter, Karen Saldana, Jessica Clark, and Ashley Young; and eleven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Peggy Fay Gideon Young; sister, Nora Dow Green; and grandson, August Richard “Peanut” Smalley.
Visitation will be held 3:00pm to 5:00pm, Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Colonial Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm, Sunday, December 15, 2013 at Colonial Funeral Home, with the Pastor Marcos Gohlke officiating. Burial will follow at Crescent Valley Cemetery with military honors provided by the Victoria Veterans Council. Serving as pallbearers will be his six grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers include Larrel Gebbert, Clifford Kunkel, Virgil Chesney, Dr. Allen Shields, Delbert Linville, Gene Westerman, and Dr. John Ramsey.
