

Dorothy Collins Koch, 79, passed away peacefully in her home with her family present on June 11, 2010. She was born April 9th, 1931 to Ben Si Collins and Lucille Walker Stephens. She was raised by her mother and father, Harry Alfred “Steve” Stephens. On May 22, 1954 Dorothy was married to Lester Roy Koch who preceded her in death after 41 years of marriage. She is also preceded in death by her parents, her brother Joel Si Collins and her grandson, Kelly Dean Koch.
Dorothy is survived by her loving children, Bert Koch and wife, Sandra of Dallas, Gary Koch and wife, Debi of Spring, Leslie Perez and husband, Oscar of San Antonio, Stephen Koch and wife, Earlynne of Montgomery and Carl Koch and wife, Maggie of Bloomington. Not only was she a beloved mother but a grandmother as well, one whose life was blessed with 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren whom she adored.
Dorothy retired from Delhi Gas Pipeline in 1992 after seventeen years as an administrative assistant. She was a 13 year cancer survivor of MD Anderson Cancer Center and was honored as the 2008 Anderson Network Telephone Volunteer of the Year. She dedicated her life, first to God and family and then to increasing her faith through her years of being an active member and a Core leader in Community Bible Study. C BS was a great vessel of learning and also a place in which she was truly touched by incredible friendships.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Sunday, June 13, 2010 at Rosewood Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held 2:30 PM on Monday, June 14, 2010 at Baptist Temple with Reverend Gary Sides officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be David Joel Collins, Bobbit Noel Collins, James Attebery, Rhyan Staten, David Janak and David Juenke. Honorary pallbearers are her sisters at CBS, Dr. Edward Kim and Research Coordinator Ranell Scherrer of MD Anderson, Dr. Faldo Khuri of Emory University, formerly of MD Anderson, her friend and primary physician, Dr. Gulshan Minocha, Joe Trapp and her neighbors.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center. Special thanks from the family members to the staff of Citizens Hospital and Hospice of South Texas for the loving comfort provided in her last days.
