Doris G. Jeane, 99, of Victoria passed away Thursday, August 19, 2010. She was born February 6, 1911, in Brookhaven, Mississippi, to the late Putt and Florence Dungan Smith. While in high school Doris earned money by picking figs, working at Woolworth’s and keeping books for a canning factory. She graduated from Brownsville High School and went to Rice Institute where she received her degree in education. Doris married Chester Jeane and they celebrated sixty-two years of marriage before he passed away in 1993. Doris retired after teaching twenty-seven years. She was also a member of the Southern Baptist church where she taught Sunday School classes for about thirty years. She was also a prize winning quilter.
Survivors include three sons, David Jeane and his wife, Allan of California, Donald Jeane and his wife, Pat, and Mickey Jeane and his wife, Christina, all of Victoria; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Jeane.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Sunday, August 22, 2010, at Rosewood Funeral Chapel, Chaplain Lyman Mereness officiating. Burial will take place Monday, August 23, 2010, at 11:00 am at San Jacinto Memorial Park Cemetery in Houston Texas.
