Donna Awalt, age 77, passed away on December 22, 2023. She was born on October 21, 1946 in Orange, Texas to Earl Weatherford and Mozelle Weatherford (Jones). Donna was an early child development teacher and a librarian throughout her career as well as a business owner. Donna was a devoted wife and a loving mother, she was very family oriented and enjoyed spending as much time as possible with her husband, children, and especially with her grandchildren. Donna's passion was in special education where she enjoyed watching her students grow and inspiring them to reach their goals in life. She loved reading and even opened up a bookstore in Victoria Texas where she was one of the first to integrate her love of books with teaching tools for her peers. Authors from all over the region would come into Donna's bookstore ( LeapFrog Learning Center) to show support of her dreams by offering book signings. A few of her favorite authors that showed their support included Bill Martin JR, Tommie Depaola, and Eric Carle.
Donna is survived by her sons, Jason Awalt and wife, April, Michael Awalt and wife, Priscilla; grandchildren, Victoria, Jake, Wyatt, Liam and sisters, Kay Drane and husband, Rusell, Gayle Seerden and husband, Tom.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jake Awalt, son, Shane Awalt and her parents, Earl and Mozelle Weatherford.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 10 AM at Rosewood Funeral Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any animal shelter of your choosing as Donna was very active in adopting and rescues, she had many dogs throughout her life that she adored.
