Burnt Biscuits ~

When I was a kid, my mom liked to make breakfast food for dinner every now and then. And I remember one night in particular when she made breakfast instead of dinner after a long, hard day at w...ork.

On that evening so long ago, my mom placed a plate of eggs, sausage and extremely burned biscuits in front of my dad. I remember waiting to see if anyone noticed!

Yet all my dad did was reach for his biscuit, smile at my mom, and ask me how my day was at school. I don't remember what I told him that night, but I do remember watching him smear butter and jelly on that biscuit and eat every bite!

When I got up from the table that evening, I remember hearing my mom apologize to my dad for burning the biscuits. And I'll never forget what he said: "Honey I love burned biscuits."

Later that night, I went to kiss Daddy good night and I asked him if he really liked his biscuits burned. He wrapped me in his arms and said, "Your Momma put in a hard day at work today and she's real tired. And besides - a little burnt biscuit never hurt anyone!"

You know, life is full of imperfect things ... and imperfect people . I'm not the best at hardly anything, and I forget birthdays and anniversaries just like everyone else.

What I've learned over the years is that learning to accept each others faults - and choosing to celebrate each others differences - is one of the most important keys to creating a healthy, growing, and lasting relationship.

That's my prayer for you today . . . That you will learn to take the good, the bad, and the difficult parts of your life and lay them at the feet of God.

Because in the end, He's the only One who will be able to give you a relationship where a burned biscuit isn't a deal-breaker! We could extend this to any relationship. In fact, understanding is the base of any relationship, be it a husband-wife or parent-child or friendship!

"Don't put the key to your happiness in someone else's pocket - keep it in your own." So please pass me a biscuit, and yes, the burned one will do just fine!

And please pass this along to someone who has enriched your life... I just did. Life is too short to wake up with regrets.

Love the people who treat you right and forget about the ones who don't.

I heard the news from my brother in law of Don's passing.  I am shocked and saddened.  I worked for Don at FWA in Midland.  

My prayers are with his family and friends at this time of sorrow.  

Rest in Peace Don.

This would have been written by my husband, but he went home to be with the Lord in 2005, but we truly loved Don and Dean,and he also loved you Lendell!He broke you out to be a roughneck.I pray that God gives each of you Peace.You had a wonderful Daddy and Mother! Pat Engle(Tommy Engle)

Don was a man that could do anything are at least tell you how it was done.  He always made sure we had the biggest baddest thing they made no matter if it was guns and knives or pots and pans.  Don worked hard and when he wanted something he got it. We spent alot of time and took many hunting trips together.  He loved to shoot big guns, reload ammo. and hunt with Lendell.  Don loved to entertain people and made sure everyone had plenty to eat, I am not sure if he knew how to just have one of anything.  I have so many good times and memories that will be carried on and he will be missed.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.  Just read the Midland paper and received the news of Don's loss.  He was a good man and I enjoyed him giving me a hard time when we did work for him.  I enjoyed the short time that we had before he retired and moved to Victoria.  God be with you.  Mo Townsend
