Charles Wesley Pollard went to be with our Lord and Savior on January 12, 2019 at 14:36 after a short illness.
Charles, known to his family as “Babo”, was born August 6, 1933 in Henrico County, VA and spent his childhood years on a dairy farm. At 17, he left school to join the U.S. Navy and spent time fighting in the Korean conflict. He jokingly referred to this as his “senior cruise”. He would eventually return to school to get his high school diploma and an associates degree from Victoria College.
After receiving an honorable discharge from the service, he met and married the love of his life, Doris Braun. They settled in South Texas in the Robstown area, working for Lacks furniture. His son Randy was born during this time. Soon after, they moved to Victoria where his daughter Kim was born and he hired on at Union Carbide as an instrument hand.
Charles' career at UCC was distinguished, and he retired in the mid 1990’s as a Control Systems Design Engineer. He and Doris then fulfilled a long time dream and moved to a lake front home on Lake Coleto.
Charles was exceptionally gregarious, abundantly kind, and never met a stranger. Charles was tough as nails with a gentleness about him that you only saw if he wanted you to. He treated the janitor as he would the CEO. He was unapologetically proud of his family, and knew that blood was thicker than water. He spent his life loving people and Jesus. Charles was a fisherman, an avid reader of westerns and history, a carpenter.
After losing Doris six years ago, their reunion will be a sweet one, and as Ray Charles sang, they are “Together Again”.
Charles was preceded in death by both parents, Percy and Melba Pollard, his brother Percy (Billy) Pollard, and his wife Doris Maxine Pollard. Charles leaves behind a son, Randy Pollard of Victoria and his wife Laura Ann, a daughter, Kim Schneider of Fannin and her husband Alan, five grandchildren - Robin Haws, Erick Pollard, Jake Schneider, Dylan Pollard, Lane Schneider, four great grandchildren, and two nephews and two nieces.
A visitation will be held from 5PM – 8PM on Thursday, January 17, 2019, at Rosewood Funeral Chapels. The funeral services will be at 2PM on Friday, January 18, 2019, at Rosewood Funeral Chapels with Rev. Randy Bruno officiating. Burial with full military honors under the auspices of the Victoria County Veterans Council will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers are Hallie Wendel, John Pollard, Tommy Harrison, Swinsord Wilson "Doc", Fred Cumpian "Indian" and Lukus Haws.
