Longtime athletic trainer, coach, and educator, Charles Robert (Bob) Billings, passed away in Victoria Texas, on September 14, 2015, at the age of 82. Bob was born January 31, 1933 in Nixon, Texas, to the late Otis LaRue and Ina Baker Billings. He grew up in Yorktown, Texas, where he developed the athletic skills that earned him a full scholarship to the University of Texas at Austin. After taking temporary leave to serve in the Army in the Korean Conflict, Bob completed his degree and embarked on a career in coaching and education that led him to Imperial Valley College in Imperial, California. For the next 30 years, Bob shared his love of sports with countless athletes and students, as well as with his own children and grandchildren, who will remember him for his love of fishing, football, track, golf, and life itself.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, John and LaRue. He is survived by his lifelong family friend and wife of 57 years, La Nelle Billings of Victoria; daughter, Christy Pinuelas of Camarillo, California; son, Mark Robert (Laurey) Billings of Sacramento, California; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
During his life he held many titles, but the one Bob revered the most was Grandpa. Grandpa Bob will be truly missed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Yorktown High School Athletic Department, 417 W 4th, Yorktown, Texas, 78164, for a track scholarship in his memory, or any charity of your choice. Visitation will be held at the Rosewood Funeral Chapel, 3304 Mockingbird Ln, Victoria, Texas, on Friday, September 18 from 6 - 8 p.m. Services will be held Saturday, September 19 at Rosewood Funeral Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place Monday, September 21 in Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery, 9974 IH 37 Access Rd, Corpus Christi, Texas, with full military honors.
