With deep sadness and hearts full of love, we announce the passing of Carol Sue Pope, who left us peacefully on November 10, 2024, at the age of 81. Born on December 7, 1942, in Victoria, Texas, to Howard and Charlene Lynch, Carol lived a life marked by unwavering love for her family, a spirit of generosity, and a faith that guided her every step.
A proud graduate of Nazareth Academy, Class of 1960, Carol cherished the lifelong bonds she formed with her classmates and remained an active supporter of her Nazareth Academy family. She never missed an opportunity to help, support, and give back to the institution that had shaped so much of her early life. Carol's love for her alma mater was a reflection of the deep sense of community and connection she fostered throughout her life.
In August of 1963, Carol married her beloved Billy Pope, and together they built a beautiful family. Their son, Timothy Pope, and his wife, Andrea, brought Carol immeasurable joy. But it was her grandchildren who truly captured her heart. Brice Pope, with his fiancée Lauren Garcia; Tristan Pope, with his wife Makayla; and the youngest, Kenedi Pope, were the light of her life. Carol's devotion to her grandchildren knew no bounds, and she made every effort to be present for them, guiding them with love, encouragement, and the occasional adventure.
Carol's heart was also full of love for her cousin, Jean Ann McConathy, and Jean's husband, Bruce. Jean was a constant presence in Carol’s life, bringing laughter, joy, and fun, and the two shared a special bond that brought great comfort to Carol. Their connection was a testament to the enduring power of family and friendship.
Carol's strong faith was the foundation of her life. She prayed daily for her family, her friends, and all those in need. Her faith was a quiet strength that she carried with her every day, finding peace and comfort in her prayers. She lived her faith through acts of kindness, always putting others before herself, and leaving a lasting impact on everyone she met.
In addition to her family and faith, Carol had a vibrant personality and enjoyed life’s pleasures. She was an avid gambler, always seeking the thrill of the game with a heart full of hope. Staying active was also important to her, and she took great joy in working out at Citizens Healthplex, where she embraced a healthy lifestyle with enthusiasm and determination.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the incredible staff at Hospice of South Texas, Dornburg Center of Compassion. Their care, dedication, and compassion made Carol’s final days comfortable, peaceful, and filled with dignity. We will forever be grateful for the love and support they provided. They will always remain in our thoughts and prayers.
Carol’s legacy is one of love, kindness, and devotion to both her family and her faith. She will be deeply missed by her husband, son, grandchildren, her extended family, and all those whose lives she touched with her generosity and warmth. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
A celebration of Carol’s life will be held at Our Lady of Victory Cathedral on Friday, November 15, 2024. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am, followed by the Chaplet of Divine Mercy at 9:30 am, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am. Carol will be laid to rest at Memory Garden Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Brice Pope, Tristan Pope, Kenedi Pope, Adrian DeSilva, Bruce McConathy, Mark Moore and Gary Moore. After the service, the family invites all who wish to join them in remembering Carol’s life of love and service to visit at the Our Lady of Victory Cathedral Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of South Texas and Our Lady of Victory Cathedral in Carol’s memory.
Carol may be gone from our sight, but she will forever remain in our hearts, a cherished presence whose love and faith will continue to guide us.
