Bill Evans of Georgetown, formerly of Victoria, passed away on December 15, 2012 at the age of 88. Bill was born in Altus, Oklahoma, on August 10, 1924, to the late Fred and Willie Mae Walker Evans. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 - 1946, and married Maxine Weaver in 1947. They were married for 56 years.
Shortly after the war, Bill went to work for Lone Star Paper which eventually became Georgia Pacific. Bill supplied businesses of every shape and size for forty years throughout the Crossroads area. In working with all manner of people, Bill was known for his big smile, positive attitude and sparkling blue eyes.
Once retired, Bill enjoyed traveling the world, but especially loved playing poker in Las Vegas and golfing at Riverside Park where they gambled for big bucks-a nickel a hole.
Bill and Maxine were members of First United Methodist Church and also volunteered at Christ's Kitchen. To say that Bill enjoyed life is an understatement. He was a humble, but enthusiastic man who made the world better for all who were around him.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife Maxine and is survived by three sons: Pat Evans, and wife Shelley, of Corpus Christi, Texas,
Dan Evans, and wife Georgette, of Victoria, Texas and Joe Evans and wife Laurie of San Angelo, Texas; and eight grandchildren: Stephanie Favor, Ted Evans, Joe Lee Evans, Elizabeth Lemoi, Ashly Bown, Bethany Evans, Todd Evans and Julie Bellows. Bill is also survived by his friends in Georgetown.
A burial service will be at Memorial Park Cemetery at 2 PM on Thursday December 20, 2012 with the Reverend Debra Crumpton officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ's Kitchen in Victoria or Wellspring United Methodist Church in Georgetown.
