She was a graduate of Lafayette High School in St. Joseph, Missouri and attended St. Joseph Jr. College. In 1950, she moved to Victoria, Texas to live with her sister, Marian, and brother-in-law, Alvin where she soon met her future husband, G. L. “Jerry” Lenz on a blind date. They were married November 10, 1950 in Victoria.
Lea and Jerry founded Jerry Lenz Sports, Inc. in 1976 which they owned and operated until their retirement in May 2000. Lea outfitted many a dance team member and jumped right in to manage a thriving retail store. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church where she was choir director and was always involved being an avid supporter of music at the church. She was a soprano soloist and sang for many weddings and funerals. Lea was a member of the Guadalupe Chapter of DAR for 42 years, Symphony League, and supporter of the arts in Victoria. She loved and cherished her family and was always the matriarch of fabulous holiday gatherings in her home. She leaves behind a legacy of family and friends who will tremendously miss her smiling face.
Lea was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Gerald Lee “Jerry” Lenz on January 19, 2013; parents; sister, Marian Walkup Boyd; and sister, Fallis Walkup Froman. She is survived by her children, Richard Lee “Ricky” Lenz (Carol Ann); Carol Joy Lenz Wisdom (Bryan); Julie Elizabeth Lenz Goodman (Mark); grandchildren, Joseph Lee Lenz; Dr. Blake Wellington Goodman (Tanya); Rhett Lexington Goodman (Kathryn); and Seminarian Chase Rittenhouse Goodman; great-grandchildren, Dominic Michael Goodman, Grace Marie Goodman, Elliott Miles Goodman, Jonathan Gabriel Goodman, and Caroline Marcella Goodman (December 2017); sister, June Walkup Dorsel; numerous nieces and nephews; and last but not least her precious Shih-Tzu, Chanel.
Visitation will be held at Rosewood Funeral Chapel, Tuesday, November 21, 2017 from 5 – 7 pm with a Vigil Service at 7 pm.
The joyous celebration of Mass and Christian burial will be Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 11:30am, Our Lady of Victory Cathedral Church, Fr. Kristopher Fuchs, officiant. Graveside services will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Joseph Lenz, Dr. Blake Goodman, Rhett Goodman, Bryan Wisdom, Mark Goodman, and Kent Froman. Mass servers will be Seminarians, Chase Goodman, James Dvorak, and Dalton Ervin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Day School, St. Joseph High School, Our Lady of Victory School, Diocese of Victoria Seminary Endowment Fund, Dorothy O’Connor Pet Adoption Center, or donor’s choice.
