Alden H. Knapp (US Army Retired) went to meet his maker on June 7, 2017. He was born February 24, 1941, the sixth child of Louis and Dorothy (Murdock) Knapp. He graduated from Oneonta High School (59’) in Oneonta, NY.
He enlisted in the US Army Nation Guard in 1959 serving his country for 40 years and retiring as a Sgt First Class.
On April 30, 1966 he married the love of his life, Mary Cargill Knapp. They had three sons, David (Pamela), Thomas (Alison) and Gregory (Jodi) Knapp. He has nine grandchildren, Tabetha Knapp, Kayliegh (Mark) Rerdon, Marirah Tuzar, Catherine Knapp, Corey Knapp, Zachariah and Asa James Knapp, Noah Cross and Tessa Tigar-Cross. He was also blessed with two great-grandchildren; Alexandria and Corey Barnhart.
Alden held all positions in the Odd Fellow and was a Cub Master and Boy Scout leader. His boys always came first. He showed them how to build an eleven room log home. His boys always valued his advice in repairing their own homes.
He worked for 25 years at Hartwick College as a supervisor of housing maintenance. He loved his job and all the students that he came in contact with.
Upon retirement, Alden and Mary traveled the USA in their motor home. They spent several winters in Victoria, TX as “Winter Texans” before deciding to settle there permanently when dementia set in.
Alden is also survived by sisters, Marion Dargon, Lillian (Robert) Milke, Shirley (Douglas) Bennett and Karen Knapp, as well as a brother, Robert Knapp.
He is predeceased by his parents; brothers, Louis Jr., Fred and Glenn Knapp and a sister, Helen Button as well as his wife’s parents, Charles and Charlotte Cargill.
The family would like to thank Hospice of South Texas and Sodalis Memory Care and all the wonderful girls they have working for them.
A Memorial Service will be held June 17, 2017 at 11am at the Fannin Methodist Church in Fannin, TX. Where Alden was a member.
