Zola Clark (nee Warren) a resident of Dean Park, North Saanich, for over thirty years, passed peacefully away at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital at the age of 93 on Tuesday, 7 February 2023. She was the widow of John Thomas Clark and is survived by her son, Philippe Bernard, brothers, Glenn Warren and Murray Corren, granddaughters, and many nieces and nephews. Zola was born on 29 November 1929, in Buchans, Newfoundland, the daughter of William and Victoria (nee Pelley) Warren, the second of eight children.
Zola married John in April 1963 and together they established successful careers in the Canadian Department of External Affairs and were stationed at Canadian Embassies in Paris, Luxembourg, Tel Aviv, Tokyo, and Karachi throughout the 1960s and 70s. On retirement, they settled in North Sannich in the early 1980s.
Never one to squander her numerous talents, Zola turned her passion to gardening, collecting and nurturing her extensive collection of David Austin roses and hybrid species fuchsias. As computer technology advanced, Zola became very adept at taking photos, downloading them onto her desktop, and manipulating them to create a large collection of abstract images, and all this in her mid-70s! Then, in her early 80s, Zola turned her hand to teaching herself watercolor painting and soon became an accomplished artist. As well, her neighbors enjoyed and will miss the many generous gifts of her beautiful hand-decorated cakes and cookies.
According to her wishes, there will be no funeral arrangements and her remains to be cremated at First Memorial Funeral Services in Victoria, BC.
