Bill was born and raised in Kipling, Saskatchewan, the youngest child of Hungarian born parents, Lagos and Etelka Szabo. Bill often spoke of his childhood on the farm in Kipling. While working the farm was a big focus he also shared stories of playing with his siblings, heading to town to play snooker and attending Bekevar Church. He, along with his parents, moved to Mission BC where they continued farming. Bill loved planes so he got his pilots license (back then cost $200) and bought a plane.
In 1959 Bill met Glenys Jones through their love of curling. They had two children; David and Tammy, and Daniel from Glenys’ first marriage. Bill then worked for Whonnock Lumber while also starting his own Mill.
He is survived by his daughter Tami & husband Dave, grandchildren Emily Glenys, Michael William & Chauntelle, step-son Daniel Hansen & wife Marsha. Step-children, with partner Edna Burns, Sherry, Shawna and Scott, grandchildren Cole and Matthew.
Bill will be missed for his kindness, generosity, sense of humour, and that smile.
