I just found out that this force of nature has passed on. I worked with Wade seeking zeolite which is a mineral he was passionate about and included in many of the City of Calgary’s plantings. 
We spent many hours traveling in BC and I was fortunate to spend time with him and the late Dr. Church who owned an excellent deposit of zeolite near Penticton. 
It was also my pleasure to spend time at the university of Alberta discussing this mineral with the world renowned Dr. Steven Kuznicki who I continue to work with utilizing zeolite in gardening. 
I have some videos of Wade should the family be interested. 
I hope that Wade is continuing his work in the great beyond making wonderful gardens. A great loss.

We bought the most beautiful 4-inch by 3-inch crystal butterfly, balanced in blue and pink to honor a brother we dearly loved. And we look at him in his spiritually balanced state on a daily basis. He will always be a part of our home, just like he is part of our soul consciousness. We learned so much from him about what love is, and always will have him close to our hearts for eternity. We would to extend our condolences to the Hartwell family on the passing of Wade. He offered many advices to me over the years as we joined the Garden Centre industry in Calgary. I also enjoyed the time I got to spend with Wade Co-hosting the Lets Talk Gardening show on 770.He will be sadly missed along his direct common sense approach to life

Sharon and Hartwell family,   We are very sorry about Wade’s passing.  He will be missed at Haro View.  He was larger than life.  He was always positive.  He was a doer.  Things got done with Wade doing much of it himself.  I remember him digging in our gardens.  A small thing compared to the large projects he did around the world but, so Wade.  You were a great partner for him, Sharon- also a doer.    He loved and respected you,  and more than once told me so.  Wishing you comfort and love my friend from Barons.  Joan and Amos  Stagg.

My condolences to the Hartwell family on the passing of Wade.  I have many happy memories of attending family functions/weddings of the Hartwell/Sheskey families.  Seeing Wade at Golden Acres here in Edmonton or passing through Calgary to stop at Golden Acres for a chat with Wade was something my husband George and I looked forward to – we were able to catch up on his trips/adventures.

I have too many memories of my brother Wade. We had such fun, and I was always so proud and loved him dearly. His brothers and sisters, when we were all younger, liked to play tricks on him. One Easter, as we were hiding the Easter baskets for the 8 children, we decided to make it really hard for Wade. So children, not thinking too far down the line, hid his basket in the basement, in the bottom of the dirty clothes container. Obviously, we had to give him a lot of hints ... hot, cold, etc. and he finally found it. Thus, the camaraderie of the brothers and sisters was shown once more. One other memory I would like to make public, is when Wade went to work for General Electric in Calgary as a young man, he was there less than 6 months and received the company's most coveted award, "the most likable/popular employee" in this large company. It shows that he always was, from the cradle to his victory, kind, loving, giving, and a great sense of humor. I love my brother dearly, and am so grateful that he was my oldest brother. To the Hartwell family,
 I just came across this impossibly sad news about Wade. I know you have an understanding of the generosity of the man and how he touched so many lives. Wade was a such a defined and knowledgeable voice on our Calgary Radio station 770 CHQR (QR77).  Thousands of Calgary gardeners came to faithfully listen every Sunday morning to Let’s Talk Gardening for Wade’s folksy advise and gardening tips that were always approachable and rich with expertise- Wade imbued so many one-of-a-kind radio skills. 

Could there be possibly more? Yes!- for decades Wade sat on the board of  the Calgary Children's Foundation. Wade brought his sharp mind, business acumen and plain old common sense to our board that was unparalleled. I would be remiss not to acknowledge his unfailing and quiet financial support to the foundation over many years.

The light in this world is now that much dimmer without Wade in it.
